A few weeks ago my oldest daughter celebrated her 18th birthday. 18? My baby is now a young woman. Since I know that she is never one to want a party, I wanted to make sure she celebrated this milestone by gently push her to have something. So I suggested something low key like having friends over for pizza and to also christen the new sunroom. She went for it (like I knew she would)! I decided to also try having an ice cream bar for her lil birthday bash. This idea was inspired from Moore Minutes blog. Her Retro Ice Cream bar was truly magnificent. Although I knew my ICB would not hold a candle to her blog, I was still inspired to just take a stab at my "low key" version. You really do have to check out her blog and her kick ass ideas.
I decided to go for a bunch of varieties of toppings for this ice cream bar and was it ever a hit. There is nothing I love seeing more than a bunch of 18 years old still getting excited over ice cream! Over all I liked how it came out, but I would changed a few things. I wouldn't use a plastic table cover again. I don't know, to me, it just cheapened the "look" of the table. Next time I will remember to invest in some linens.
The ice cream bar had 3 types of cones, brownies, and then 2 types of ice creams. Also there was cans of whipped cream, hot fudge in a fondue, caramel, cherries and crushed walnuts. I decided to put these in martini glasses for a little flair!
The other toppings were crushed Oreos, Reese's pieces, M&M's, and crushed Butterfingers. All of these topping were at the request of the Birthday girl.
Will you look at this this was the line that formed when I called the kids in for "Ice Cream" time! It made me so happy and the kids told me over and over how much they loved the ICB.
